Career Design Lab

Make sense of your next career move.

A good next step begins with knowing where you want to go, how your experience fits and where to focus your effort. Career Design Lab gives you someone to work through those questions with.

Career Design Lab gives you time to examine the work you have done, the opportunities you want and the distance between them. A coach helps you turn that thinking into a search you can sustain.

Together, you will refine how you describe your experience, choose roles and companies worth pursuing, and learn from the responses you get along the way.

Who it’s for

Built for professionals shaping their next career move

Career Design Lab is mainly for professionals with some experience behind them who want to make a deliberate move. You may be changing fields, looking for more responsibility or trying to understand why your applications are not leading to the conversations you hoped for.

Changing direction

Moving into a new field or role

We will look at the experience you can carry into a new field, the gaps you need to address and the roles that give your move a realistic starting point.

Growing

Taking on more responsibility

If you are ready for a larger role, we will examine how you present the work you have already done and where your next opportunity might be.

Finding direction

Working out what comes next

You can use the Lab to think through your strengths, interests and the opportunities in front of you before committing to a search.

Starting out

Building experience in a new field

If you are still building a track record, we will help you see what you can already offer and where you might gain the experience you need next.

Approach

The work we do together

Understand your experience

We start with the work you have done and the parts of it that matter for the roles you want. That gives us a stronger foundation for your resume, LinkedIn profile and conversations.

Choose where to focus

A useful search has a direction. We help you identify the roles and companies that fit your experience and ambitions, then decide where your effort is best spent.

Tell a clearer story

Your resume, cover letters and outreach should help someone understand why your experience matters. We work on that story until it sounds like you and speaks to the opportunity in front of you.

Learn as you apply

Applications and interviews give you information. We review what is working, practise the conversations that matter and adjust your approach as you learn more.

Begin with a conversation.

In a free consultation, we will talk about where you are, what you have tried and what you want to move towards. That will help us decide whether the Lab is the right support for you.

Testimonials

What people are saying:

“For the longest time, I thought my job search struggles were just bad luck. I was sending out applications, checking all the boxes, and waiting, nothing was working. It wasn’t until I joined the program that I realised the problem wasn’t luck, it was my approach. One of the most valuable things I learned was how to track and analyse my applications. Seeing patterns helped me adjust my strategy in real time, instead of just hoping for better results. That shift made my process more efficient and intentional.”
Terhile
“I always thought I had a solid resume. But after applying to countless jobs and hearing nothing back, I knew something was off. The program helped me see where I was losing opportunities and how small adjustments could make a big difference. After refining my resume and LinkedIn, I started getting responses from companies I thought were out of reach. One of those led to an interview for a program management role, something I had been eager to transition into. The guidance I received on case studies and interview prep helped me walk into that conversation prepared and confident.”
Jane
“I had great experience, but I struggled to translate it into the kind of roles I wanted in tech. Every time I sat down to write an application, I felt stuck. How do I connect my background to this new industry? The program helped me break that down. Learning how to build a 'master resume' was a game-changer. Documenting my accomplishments gave me a clearer view of my career story and made it easier to tailor applications without losing sight of my bigger goals. More than anything, I left with a clear career strategy - not just a better resume.”
Makena
“When I started job searching, I felt like I was throwing darts in the dark. I had no real strategy, just a growing sense of frustration. From the first session, the program gave me direction and a structured way to approach my search. One of the most important things I learned was how to tell my career story in a way that resonated with employers. The moment I started framing my experiences differently, I saw an immediate shift - more responses, better interviews, and opportunities to consider!”
Myra
“I was very excited when I applied for an opportunity through VFA. After my initial conversation with the team, they sent me an updated version of my resume that they believed would position me better for the role. It was evident that they had put in an incredible amount of time and effort to truly understand my skills, experiences, and aspirations. The level of detail and refinement in my updated resume was simply outstanding. With my newly refined resume effectively showcasing my story, I landed a recommendation for a dream role at one of VFA's startup partners, successfully making the career transition I had been aiming for!”
Annastacia
“I was once in the same situation as many job seekers - struggling to secure interviews and feeling frustrated with the lack of responses. That's when I decided to take advantage of Venture for Africa's resume review service. Let me tell you, it made a significant difference! The feedback and guidance they provided were excellent, helping me overhaul my resume and effectively highlight my skills and experience. With my updated resume in hand, I confidently applied for a new role and guess what? Not only did I land an interview, but after prepping for the interview with VFA, I also received a job offer within a remarkably short period of time!”
